To inquire about trade-ins and whatnot. They had this black 5.0 automatic while I was there.
Now I just have to talk to the big man(dad) about what I want to do. Here's to hoping I can my point across!
Have a FiST(blue FoST behind it)

You do realize if you get the Mustang it wont take too long before you want another car, right?

The Mustang section of the local dealer has been BLOWING UP recently. Three weeks back they had two. Two weeks back they had 10. Now there are well over 20 at the front of the lot.

So much black plastic accented with chrome plastic! BARF I don't know what the right answer is for interior upholstery and styling, but I know this isn't it!
That's not just a complaint about the mustang, it is every new car!
Also I saw an almost identical one of these in the wild over the weekend. Seems a lot smaller and less masculine (for lack of a better descriptor ) than the previous generation. Not saying it is good or bad, definitely different.

You'll take a bath on trade-in. Private sale will get you $1000s of more dollars.
If you have to have one, can you wait on a lightly used Mustang? Plenty of people get into a car like this, drive it for a few months, and then realize that they really can't afford it.

That looks so good. Are those wheels the optional 19's?
Be careful trading in, my Dad got some horrible offers on his 2012 5.0. Thankfully we found another buyer and paid off the rest of the car.
Oh ya! If you join the Mustang Club of America you get X Plan, which is an awesome discount. If your dealer takes it. You would get a Mustang at a very good price with that.

I just don't understand why the Mustang is something you seem convinced that you have to have now. I mean, you're in college and already have 2 perfectly fine and good cars, so you should be focussing more on your future and doing well in what counts now than accumulating cars. It would be somewhat understandable if you weren't looking to trade-up to go brand new, but you have to realize that getting a brand new Mustang is not going to help you out financially. It just isn't as good of a move as you think it is, I promise.

My view is this: if you have a reason to buy a new car (lease payments deductible, business use deductible) do it. Otherwise, figure out a way to buy a 2-year-0ld ____ unless the loan is so expensive it makes no sense. Let someone else eat the depreciation. But that's just me.

uhm what is insanity and torture? That you can't get everything you want, when you want it? That's life, dude.
And you say "years and years" like you have to wait until you're retired to afford a damn Mustang. If you want one and take care of the important shit in life (as I mentioned before), it won't be hard to obtain a new one, or a very clean used one if the body styles change and you just have to have a '15. They aren't some exotic that is going to appreciate like hell and you'll never have another chance, in fact, they're quite the opposite. Learn to be patient instead of convincing yourself you need something on a whim.

You'll never be happy with anything if you aren't happy with what you have, first. That goes for anything, be it objects, relationships, whatever. And also, if you know you can't be happy with what you have, what makes you think that once you get a Mustang, you'll achieve some state of nirvana and finally be happy?

12/09/2014 at 18:39 | 4 |
Spoiler alert: it won't. It'll make you happy for X amount of time that you actually got one, and then you'll move on to something else.
Rethink your priorities and reevaluate what you allow yourself to be consumed by. I'm not saying that you should never want things, but you need to learn to separate what you mentally consider as something you 'want' and something you 'need'. And once you do that, realize that if you don't get what you 'want', it's not the end of the world.

Fucking REALLY?! Insanity and torture? Because you can have a brand new Mustang right now? When you have a goddamn new Focus ST and classic Porsche? You ever try dealing with getting clean after an addiction? Potential homelessness? Not having money for even the most basic needs like food and heat? THATS torture. THAT will drive you to insanity.
Go ahead, ask me how I know.

Before you think about getting one, call your insurance company. Last I checked about a year ago, it would be over $400 a month for me to insure one. That was for a 20 year old with a clean record and all discounts available. Compared to say $180 for a GTI or similar hot hatch.

The lottery. Go play it. Maybe you'll win and then be able to satiate your neverending want for something different. Otherwise, welcome to life. Where the vast majority of us have to save and wait for things. I've been away from Oppo for about a month, I come back, and immediately see that not a damn thing has changed.
Yes...this may be violating our key tenant of don't be a dick, but come on man.

Sure there is. I can show you all of the old folks in that buy brand new GTs and GT 500s, get matching jackets, and take them to car shows every weekend thinking that their brand new car is the coolest and fastest thing on the planet. Would put down money that the cars like that never see the north side of 3000 rpm.

Sounds like you don't really know who you are or what you want, and if that's the case then you should reconsider making big financial decisions on frivolous items or getting others to do so on your behalf. A brand new Mustang isn't even one of those rare cases where a car has hit the bottom of its depreciation curve and you need to buy it now or pay three to four times its price when you buy it later.
It is my experience that, when somebody doesn't know who he is, he can't know what he wants and will thus never be satisfied by anything he has. It is also my experience that when somebody doesn't know who he is it's because he's repressing something, consciously or unconsciously. So, go figure out what you are repressing, confront it, then either let it go or stop repressing it. Then you can know what you want and then you can be happy with the things that you get, and then you can make informed decisions.
Also, plenty of good things come from human nature. Being social is also human nature. Showing compassion is human nature. Wanting to help those we see in need...is human nature. Wanting to explore the unknown is human nature.

This. I almost traded in my Jeep for a Abarth 500. It was perfect and I even got a great offer for the trade in. They would have given me $250 to take the 500. How impossibly good does that sound?
Well, impossibly good. I called my insurance company and the Abarth would have cost $1000 more per year to ensure because it has a turbo (which is idiotic, by the way). Insurance is the killer of dreams.

On the plus side, I just turned 21 and I think my insurance went down by like 30%. Also, I drive one of the least expensive cars to insure(Miata, it really is the answer).

Damn. I'm definitely looking forward to that next year. Mine is apparently supposed to go down a little bit next month for reasons I cannot explain. And I'm trying to sell the Jeep, which will get rid of almost 3/4 of my insurance bill. The 2002 is weirdly cheap to insure.

Mine was cheap, then it went up for no reason, and now I think it's gone down. Either that, or they mis-charged me. I hope it really went down.

MrPseudonym
> K-Roll-PorscheTamer
12/10/2014 at 10:35 | 0 |
Okay now, let's not go there just yet...
It's too early for this... I mean, the "die before completing" and the point of life questions...
Also, the point of living is learning. I guess. Something good and philosophical, or something like that. Even after the Apollo 1 incident, did the NASA engineers give up? No. And even before that, with Vanguard TV3, did they give up? No. They got up, brushed themselves off, and tried again, and kicked some commie ass . Now, granted, they did have government funding, but...
